Diagnostic Imaging
Diagnostic imaging uses of electromagnetic radiation and other technologies to produce extremely detailed images of the internal structures of your pet. These images help us provide you with an accurate diagnosis.
At Providence South Animal Hospital, we use digital x-rays and ultrasound to learn what's happening inside your pet's body and provide you with the most effective treatment options.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound, a non-invasive technology, uses sound waves that are transmitted into your pet's body to create an image that allows your veterinarian to look at the structure of an organ. Unlike with a digital x-rays, fluid can be distinguished from soft tissue masses or foreign bodies.
Ultrasound is useful in the diagnosis of hemoabdomen and pericardial effusion (blood in the abdomen and around the heart) in pets.
If a pet ingests something it shouldn't have, or has a tumor, an ultrasound can also be helpful to locate the foreign objects and characterize them.
Radiography (Digital X-Rays)
An x-ray, or radiograph, is a type of photograph that can look inside your pet's body and reveal information that may not be apparent from the outside.
X-rays are painless, safe, and completely non-invasive, and use very low doses of radiation. Even pregnant females and very young pets can safely undergo radiography.
X-rays can be used to evaluate bones and organs and diagnose conditions such as bladder stones, broken bones, chronic arthritis, spinal cord diseases and tumors.
In-House Pharmacy
At Providence South Animal Hospital, our in-house pharmacy is stocked with a variety of medications and prescription diets, giving us easy access to any medications your pets may need while in our care. During your visit or at your convenience, you can also fill and refill your pet’s prescriptions.
